Bethany Joy Lenz is best known for her role as Haley James Scott on One Tree Hill, but there’s so much more to her than just that. Here are 10 fascinating things that you didn’t know about the singer/actress:

10. Multi-Talented

She plays the guitar and piano and writes her own music, and as a child, she took dance, tap, jazz, acting and theatre classes.

9. Soap Opera Past

Before she was cast on One Tree Hill, she starred as Michelle Bauer Santos on the CBS Daytime soap opera Guiding Light. She was only 17-years-old when she was cast.

8. Favorite Movies

Her favorite movies are About A Boy, Braveheart, Equilibrium, Much Ado About Nothing, Newsies, French Kiss and Last of the Mohicans.

7. Bethany as Brooke?

She originally auditioned for two different roles on One Tree Hill: As Brooke Davis and Haley James. As the story goes, she landed the role of Haley.


6. First Album

Like her character on One Tree Hill, she’s also a professional musician. She released her first album, Preincarnate, in 2002.

5. Touring Musician

In 2005, she and Tyler Hilton – who she recorded “When The Stars Go Blue” with – joined The Wreckers (Michelle Branch and Jessica Harp), and Gavin DeGraw for a 25-city North American One Tree Hill Tour that started in Vancouver.

4. Everly

In 2008, she formed the band Everly with her friend Amber Sweeney.

3. When Life Imitates Art

She was actually pregnant during the filming of season eight of One Tree Hill.

2. Actress Turned Director

She directed three episodes of One Tree Hill. One in season six, titled “Screenwriter’s Blues,” one in season seven titled “At the Bottom of Everything” and one in season eight titled “Between Raising Hell and Amazing Grace.”

She is of Australian, Scottish, German and Irish descent and has lineage that traces all the way back to the king, Malcolm I of Scotland.
