Lady Diana Spencer watched her fiancé, Prince Charles, at the Imperial Polo Match at the Guards Polo Club in Windsor in 1981. She looked so fresh-faced in her beautiful pink dress. Even before she was a royal, she was already making a statement with her fashion.
Diana participated in a tennis tournament in October 1988 at the Vanderbilt Racquet Club to raise funds for Birthright. Tennis player Steffi Graf was also there. Even though Diana didn’t win, she still looked really cute in her tennis attire.
Princess Diana visited the Vatican with Prince Charles and met with Pope John Paul II during their tour of Italy in 1985. She looks like she’s in mourning with this lace black dress and lace veil, but she wasn’t the only person wearing all black for the meeting.
In 1978, Lady Diana Spencer was a bridesmaid at her sister Lady Jane’s wedding to Robert Fellowes. She wore this frumpy-looking bridesmaid dress, which is definitely not something the Diana that we remember would wear. Still, she looks really pretty!
Prior to her marriage to Prince Charles, Diana was a nursery teacher’s assistant at the Young England School in Pimlico. In this picture, she’s walking outside the nursery school while photographers try and get a shot of her. She seems to recognize that, as Charles’ girlfriend, the media is going to take a keen interest in her, but she doesn’t seem to be happy about it.
Princess Diana attended the opening of University College Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in 1982 in style. She looked lovely and sophisticated in this beautiful blue velvet dress, which she paired with a feathered hat.
The British royal family has always enjoyed taking their winter vacations at the resort of Klosters in Switzerland, and in 1968, Prince Charles took Princess Diana on a skiing trip there. She looks like a natural on skis and knows just how to dress for the slopes!
In March of 1983, Princess Diana was on a tour of Australia and New Zealand with Prince Charles with their son, Prince William. In this picture, she’s at the St. John’s Ambulance Headquarters Centre in Alice Springs, Australia.

The Princess of Wales visited Lahore, Pakistan, in 1996 so that she could help raise funds for Khans Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital. Princess Diana visited Czechoslovakia in 1991 where she stopped at an orphanage in Prague and played the piano for the kids. Diana was an accomplished pianist as a child, so the musical show she put on for them must have been a good one!

Diana and Prince Charles did a tour of Nigeria in 1990. She arrived at the airport in Lagos, the country’s capital, in style. She wore this green and white Catherine Walker outfit with a Philip Somerville hat.
In this picture, Princess Diana is wearing the uniform of the British Red Cross as she visited a Red Cross Center in Bristol, England. She was a patron of the British Red Cross Youth and knew how to make a great impression.
After separating from Prince Charles, Princess Diana began spending a lot more time in New York City where she thrived. The American press didn’t hound her the same way the British press did. Here she is in NYC back in 1995, looking stylish.
In 1988, Diana visited Saudi Arabia with Prince Charles. Here she is attending a picnic in the desert in a Bedouin tent. She’s wearing a Catherine Walker Ensemble, which was perfect for the occasion – pretty but conservative.
Diana was joined by her two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, for a skip trip in Lech, Austria, back in 1993. In this photo, she doesn’t seem to be too thrilled about having photographers there, documenting her every move.
This picture was taken in November 1982, just four months after William’s birth. While the Princess of Wales looked lovely in this blue dress, her gaunt physique had people thinking that she may be anorexic or bulimic.
The Princess of Wales was at a service commemorating the 70th anniversary of the armistice at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France, back in 1988. She wore a double-breasted Jasper Conran coat with a Viv Knowland hat.
Her Royal Highness attended the opening ceremony of the World Travel Marketing in a white dress suit with red accents and a matching white hat. This is a good look on the princess. She looks stunning and sophisticated.

In 1997, Diana traveled to Angola and walked through an active minefield to promote the campaign against the use of the landmines. Back in the 1990s, Angola’s countryside was littered with millions of landmines after years of civil war, and Diana was one of the few people to bring awareness to this issue. After walking through the minefield, she visited a Red Cross center and spent time with victims of the civil war.
Princess Diana visited the Nottinghamshire Society for the Deaf in May 1990 to celebrate their centenary year. In this picture, she is demonstrating her sign language skills. She literally could do anything!
Princess Diana is pictured here visiting the Project Rosemary housing scheme in Toxteth Liverpool in November 1995. This was a big year for the Princess of Wales. Around this very time, she gave a tell-all interview to Martin Bashir about Charles’ extramarital relationship with Camilla Parker-Bowles. Just a month later, Queen Elizabeth advised Charles and Diana to divorce.
Princess Diana visited Kuwait in July 1989 and she made sure to wear a number of great styles. When she arrived, she wore this blue and white striped Roland Klein suit with a matching hat by Philip Somerville. Doesn’t she look beautiful?
In 1983, Princess Diana went on tour with Prince Charles in Canada and she made sure to do so in style. Here is she is at Heathrow Airport following the tour, looking as stylish as ever in this blazer with a polka dot dress.
