Things You Didn’t Know About Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s Relationship
Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank had been together for seven years when he finally popped the question. Now that the two are finally going to be man and wife, here are 12 things that most people don’t know about the low-key royal couple:
12. They First Met in Verbier, Switzerland
The couple first met while they were skiing in Verbier, Switzerland, in 2010. She was 20 and he was 24 and they were introduced by mutual friends. There was an immediate attraction. Unfortunately, at the time, Eugenie was studying at Newcastle University while Jack was working in London, but they found a way to make it work.
11. They are Distantly Related
Princess Eugenie and Jack share a common ancestor! His name is Thomas William Coke, and he is the 2nd Earl of Leicester. He is the great-great-great-great grandfather on her mom Fergie’s side and he’s also Jack’s great-great-grandfather from his second marriage, which was to Georgina Caroline Cavendish. This makes Eugenie and Jack third cousins once removed!
10. Love at First Sight
When they met, it was love at first sight! “[It] was amazing; love at first sight,” he said on The One Show. She agreed. “We met when I was 20 and Jack was 24 and fell in love, and we have the same passions and drive for life,” she said. “It’s so nice that we get to share this moment with everyone.”
9. Public Debut
In 2011, Jack and Princess Eugenie made their first public appearance together when they attended the Royal Ascot together. This was a big deal. Kate Middleton reportedly wasn’t invited to attend until she was married to Prince William, but since Princess Eugenie isn’t a working royal, she’s not bound by the same rules.
8. Long Distance Love
In 2013, Eugenie moved to New York City to work for online auction house Paddle8 while Jack stayed in London. The two continued to date while she was away for two years. According to Jack, they made their long-distance relationship work with Skype. “We spend a lot of time on Skype,” he told The Daily Mail in 2013. “It’s great. We are still very much together.”
7. The Simple Life
Like any couple, when these two are together, they like to watch shows. “When I’m with Jack, we watch The Walking Dead, which we’re obsessed with,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. “Maybe Game of Thrones is our next thing. I don’t watch reality shows, but I love cooking programs.”
He proposed to his royal girlfriend when they rang in the New Year in Nicaragua in 2017. According to Eugenie, she didn’t see it coming! “The lake was so beautiful. The light was just a special light I had never seen. I actually said, ‘This is an incredible moment,’” she said. “And then he popped the question, which was really surprising even though we have been together seven years.” He didn’t propose with a ring, though, so that Eugenie would have a say. “I found a ring in a jewelers and then proposed to Eugenie without it and came back and we designed the diamonds around this padparadscha sapphire,” he revealed.
5. Famous Friends
The couple has a host of celebrity friends that include Ellie Goulding, James Blunt, Cressida Bonas and Sir Elton John, and they are all expected to attend the nuptials on October 12, 2018. Other famous faces that are expected to be there are Amal and George Clooney (Jack is his tequila company’s U.K. brand ambassador), Rande Gerber and Cindy Crawford, Robbie Williams, as well as Victoria and David Beckham, and Karlie Kloss, who is a close friend of Eugenie’s sister Beatrice.
4. The Queen Approves
According to Princess Eugenie, Queen Elizabeth not only approves of her relationship with Jack, but she knew immediately that he was the one. “Granny actually knew right at the beginning. She was one of the very few people right at the beginning,” the princess told The Telegraph.
3. They live at Kensington Palace
The couple has already moved into their three-bedroom apartment at Kengsington Palace, which is known as Ivy Cottage. It’s right by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Nottingham College, so we can just imagine that these two couples will be spending time together!
Princess Eugenie and Jack will be getting married on October 12, 2018 at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, which is where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot in May of 2018. More than 800 guests are expected to attend. Prince George will be a pageboy again and Princess Charlotte will be one of the flower girls. Following the ceremony, Eugenie and Jack will take a carriage ride through the town of Windsor and then will head back to Windsor Castle for a champagne reception that will be hosted by Queen Elizabeth. That evening, the Duke and Duchess of York will be hosting an event for the newlyweds at Royal Lodge in Windsor.
1. Royal Title
Once she is married, Princess Eugenie will not be getting a new title and Jack won’t be getting any title. She will be known as HRH Princess Eugenie, Mrs. Jack Brooksbank after she is married and Jack will remain a member of the public. There were rumors in 2016 that Prince Andrew had insisted that his daughters’ future husbands get earldoms for their children so that they could be officially royal; however, he denied that, saying, “It is a complete fabrication to suggest I have asked for any future husbands of the Princesses to have titles.”
