Jaime King is separating from husband Kyle Newman after 15 years of marriage, and the split doesn’t appear to be amicable.
The 41-year-old actress filed for separation on Monday, May 18, in Los Angeles, PEOPLE confirmed. King also filed a domestic violence prevention petition. The actress shares two sons, 6-year-old James Knight and 4-year-old Leo Thames, with the 44-year-old director.

King and Newman met on the set of the film Fanboys, which Newman directed. The pair tied the knot in 2007 at the Greystone Park and Manor in Los Angeles, which was also the site of their first date more than a year before the ceremony.
“I don’t know why, but some part of me was instantly connected to him, and I loved him so much,” King told InStyle Weddings at the time. “It was intense. I never thought that would happen to me.”
Throughout the years, the pair have faced difficult moments together as parents. Last April, King opened up about Leo’s heart condition, revealing to PEOPLE Now that she first discovered her son had a condition called transposition of the great arteries, “which is a very serious heart defect,” while she was 33 weeks pregnant.
“When you have a voice, you need to use your voice in a responsible way,” she said, adding that their youngest went on to undergo heart surgery at 20 weeks old. “And I look at my child now, and he’s so strong and amazing and vibrant, but when you’re breastfeeding a baby with 67 lines in them, it’s just a totally different experience.”
In 2018, King was left “very shaken up” after James Knight was struck by glass when a man allegedly attacked their parked car he was sitting in with a female friend of the actress in Beverly Hills.
“I am incredibly blessed to be your mama. Thank you for choosing me my beautiful babies. May I always hold for you and be the safest space that you know 🦋with happiness, peace, unconditional loving, support, laughter, abundance, understanding, joy and hearing and seeing you for you forever,”King wrote on Mother’s Day of this year.
