7 Couples We’re Surprised Ever Got Married

Some celebrity relationships make absolutely no sense. While we have no understanding of why many of these couples ever got married in the first place, we do understand why they all chose to get divorced. None of them had what it takes to make their relationships a lifelong commitment, and we all saw that from the very beginning. Check  out our list of Hollywood’s oddest celebrity marriages. These 7 couples all had little to nothing in common and, for some strange reason, thought that they could make a marriage work. Needless to say, all of these couples are now divorced.

7. Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries

When Kim Kardashian hooked up with Kris Humphries, she was desperate to marry anyone – as long he was a professional athlete. Humphries came along at the right time and, even though the rest of us were totally repulsed by him in every conceivable way, she convinced herself they were meant to be. When she filed for divorce after only 72 days of marriage, some of us were left wondering how she even stayed with him that long.

6. Russell Brand and Katy Perry

Russell Brand and Katy Perry seemed like a really mismatched pair. He was such a womanizer and she was this good little Christian girl. How these two ever managed to make it down the aisle is still a mystery. Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take long for the marriage to deteriorate. Less than year into it, they were already living separate lives and, just over a year after they said their “I dos,” Brand announced that he and Perry would be divorcing.

5. Sandra Bullock and Jesse James

Based on looks alone, these two seemed like an odd match. She is America’s sweetheart and he was just some tattooed, motorcycle guy who somehow managed to get her attention long enough to convince her to marry him. When it came out that he had been continuously cheating on her throughout their marriage, people rallied around the Oscar-winning actress and vilified James. The only good thing to come out of this relationship was the breakup.

4. Britney Spears and Kevin Federline

After her breakup with Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears spent a couple of years rebounding. She was looking for something – anything – to fill the void that her first love had left in her life. When Kevin Federline came along, we all knew that he was anything but Mr. Right, but Spears was so lonely and desperate that she settled for him. When Spears finally filed for divorce after two years of marriage, everyone was relieved. Federline seemed to be using her to promote his rap career.

3. Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher

No one expected Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher’s relationship to last. The 16-year age difference was enough for many of us to consider it doomed. When news hit in 2011 that he had just had a hot one night stand with a 22-year-old by the name of Sara Leal, many of us were only shocked by Kutcher’s audacity. We all knew their marriage would end, but many of us expected him to at least end things in a more dignified manner. We know better than that now.

2. Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise’s relationship was definitely one of the strangest. They seemed to have little to nothing in common and, with the age difference, they had many people scratching their heads. It didn’t take long before she seemed brainwashed by the charismatic actor and his kooky religion: Scientology. When Holmes finally walked away from the marriage in 2012, people were only surprised because we didn’t think she had it in her to leave him. Good for you, Katie!

1. Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey

Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey were the one of the most ill suited couples ever. Many of us wouldn’t have known just how awful they were together if it wasn’t for their reality TV show, which documented the three years that were married. On “Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica,” viewers got an inside look at the couple. We all witnessed them behaving as though they had been together for over 40 years and appearing as though they were totally sick of each other.
