Rumors have swirled about a potential “murder mystery” storyline in the world of Salem, and it seems that we’ve finally got some answers!
Marci Miller, who plays Abby on Days of our Lives, will be cut from the series. “For us and for the audience, it’s always heartbreaking for a character to die, because we love these characters,” headwriter Ron Carlivati shared with Soap Opera Digest. “Even though they’re fictional, it hurts anytime we kill somebody.”
Fans can’t help but wonder why and how this decision came to be. It seems that the decision was out of necessity since Miller was not available to continue to play the role full-time.
Another factor is that while Kate Mansi was willing to reprise the role occasionally, she wasn’t willing to do so on contract. “So we didn’t really have the option to have Abigail around,” explained Carlivati.
As with many soap storylines, however, we wouldn’t count on the fact that Abby is gone for good.
Carlivati explained: “We decided to do it knowing that we’re not saying it’s not a permanent death,” Carlivati notes, “but there is always that possibility that death is not permanent, especially on a soap opera and especially in Salem.”
