One of country music’s most adorable couples are celebrating today! Beloved country star Thomas Rhett and his wife Lauren Akins were married on October 12, six years ago!
As Thomas Rhett, whose real name is Thomas Rhett Akins Jr., has become a bigger and bigger star in country music, he has opened up more and more about his relationship with Lauren and how much she influences his music. In 2015, his second single called “Die a Happy Man” from his second studio album “Tangled Up” rocketed to number one on many country music charts, and it was all about his love with his wife and the pair even adorably starred in the music video together.
The pair initially met back in elementary school and although they dated briefly, things didn’t work out and they went their separate ways for awhile, but Rhett maintains he always loved Akins. Eventually they made their way back to each other and on October 12, 2012 they were wed. 2017 was a huge year for the couple as after difficulty conceiving naturally, they decided to adopt a baby girl from Uganda named Willa Gray, and only a few short months after deciding on the adoption, they found out they were pregnant with their first biological child and welcomed daughter Ada James only a few months after bringing Willa home.

10. How They Met
Thomas Rhett met his future wife, Lauren Gregory, all the way back in the first grade when they both lived in Valdosta, Georgia. They were in the same kindergarten class at Goodpasture Christian in Madison and became close friends while in the sixth grade. They both attended church camp together when they were 13-years-old, forming an even closer friendship, and at 15 they briefly dated for six months. But the relationship was short lived and they went back to being best friends. Thomas and Lauren both went on to have several other relationships. “I don’t think she really noticed me ’til we were 16. When I heard that she had ended her other relationship, I moved in for the kill. We kissed, and that was it,” he said.
