20 Most Shocking Breakups Of 2014

2014 has been full of celebrity breakups. Whether it’s relationships, engagements or marriages, many celebrities just weren’t able to make it work. Many of these duos have blamed their busy schedules for why their relationships fell apart. We personally find this hard to believe. Many of these “busy” celebrities never actually stop being busy and many of them have already moved on to new relationships. If a busy schedule is enough to bring a former relationship down, it doesn’t bode too well for future relationships! Here are 20 of 2014’s biggest celebrity breakups. We are listing them from the least surprising to the most shocking, so scroll through to see who topped the list at number 1.

20. Heidi Klum and Martin Kristen

Heidi Klum caused quite the stir when she started dating her bodyguard, Martin Kristen shortly after she announced her split from Seal. Her ex was totally unimpressed, accusing the former supermodel of “fornicating with the help.” We hope that he gets at least some joy out of the fact that these two broke up this past January after dating for only 18 months. It sounds like dating Klum had some nice benefits. When she broke up with Kristen, she reportedly bought him a house in his home country of South Africa and gave hime some money in an effort to keep him quiet. Many suspected early on that this relationship wouldn’t work out and that he was only a rebound for her. From what sources have said, it looks as though, by the end, she was treating him more as a nanny than as a lover. He had complained about having to take care of the kids while she globe-trotted.

19. Marc Anthony and Chloe Green

This past February, Marc Anthony and his much younger girlfriend, Chloe Green, called it quits. This on-off couple had been dating for a year; however, their busy schedules are said to have gotten in the way. They took a brief break in April 2013; however, this time, it was for good. As per usual, Anthony has wasted no time moving on. He reconnected with his ex Shannon de Lima, who he dated in 2012 after his breakup with Jennifer Lopez and before his relationship with Green. These two dated until January 2013, but broke up for no apparent reason. It was amicable, which is probably why they ended up hooking up again after he broke things off with Green. Anthony and de Lima got serious pretty quickly this time. A couple of weeks ago, they made things official and got married in the Dominican Republic. Hopefully this is the end of their on-off relationship!

18. Ricki Lake and Christian Evans

This past October, Ricki Lake filed for divorce from her husband of just over two years, Christian Evans. The marriage itself came out of the blue so, when her plans to divorce became public, it was just as shocking. Neither party has offered any reasons for the sudden split. All we know is that things became strained after Evans took a sudden solo trip to Ibiza and forgot to call his wife on her birthday. Things are reportedly pretty messy between these two. In their prenuptial agreement, he is supposed to get $125,000 once they are divorced; however, rumor has it that he is planning to go after at least three times that amount and, once the divorce is finalized, he is planning to write a tell-all book. It sounds like Evans is quite the gold digger. We hope Lake has a really good divorce attorney because it seems like she’s going to need it.

17. Uma Thurman and Arpad Busson

Uma Thurman and Aprad Busson ended their engagement this year. Although their breakup was announced in April, they reportedly called off the wedding long before that. These two have enjoyed an on-off relationship for years. They first began dating in 2007 and were engaged the following year. They briefly split in 2009, but reconciled and welcomed a daughter together in 2012 who they call Luna. The former couple is currently embroiled in a bitter custody battle over their little girl. Rumors began swirling this past summer about Thurman and Quentin Tarantino. They were spotted getting cozy in Cannes, which had many people thinking that they were finally taking their relationship to the next level. It isn’t so, though. These two are still just friends; however, they do find all the rumors about their supposed relationship to be quite amusing. This is quite the disappointment. The pair would actually be quite perfect together!

16. Olivia Munn and Joel Kinnaman

This past April, it was revealed that Olivia Munn and Joel Kinnaman called it quits after two years of dating. They reportedly broke up a few months before the media caught wind of it. Distance is said to have played a big role in their decision to break up. He’s been filming in Toronto and she is now living in Los Angeles full time. These two are still good friends though. Munn wasted no time moving on. She reportedly began dating her current beau Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers this past April. Things seem to be pretty serious between the lovebirds. He recently bought her a vintage yellow-gold ring featuring a striking large oval-shaped emerald centerpiece. It may look like an engagement ring, but it’s not. Munn had worn the ring to a premiere and he had overheard her gushing to her stylish about it, so he decided to buy for her. What a gent!

15. Britney Spears and David Lucado

Britney Spears and David Lucado broke up this past August after a video surfaced of him making out with some other woman who may or may not have been a porn star. The pop princess ended things after seeing the video; however, Lucado wasn’t quite ready to throw in the towel. He reportedly told Spears that his make out session with the other woman didn’t count as cheating because they had been on a break when the alleged hook up occurred. Spears has bounced back pretty quickly. While opening up at one of her Las Vegas shows about the cheating scandal involving her former beau, she announced that she is now back in the dating game. She is now currently seeing writer-producer Charlie Ebersol, who is the son of the co-creator of Saturday Night Live Dick Ebersol. Needless to say, he’s a huge step up from Lucado. It sounds like Charlie is more on Spears’ level.

14. Brandy and Ryan Press

Brandy and Ryan Press ended their engagement this past April. Her rep issued a statement claiming that the breakup was a mutual decision and that the former couple is still friends. “They’re both taking a step back regarding their relationship. They’re definitely friends and will continue to be friends. There’s nothing malicious or negative about [their split].” Breakup rumors began circulating last February when Brandy showed up at the 45th NAACP Non-Televised Awards without her engagement ring. It didn’t help matters when she showed up to her own birthday party without it. Brandy’s rep claims that the Grammy-winning singer still wants to get married and have more children, but she has way too much going on right now. She is currently working on her seventh studio album and is using her breakup as inspiration. Once it released, we’re sure we’ll know more about why this couple decided to call off their engagement.

13. Debra Messing and Will Chase

After dating for two-and-a-half years, Debra Messing and Will Chase announced this past October that they had decided to go their separate ways. These two met on the set of the now canceled drama series “Smash.” The romantic situation looked ideal – he had just separated from his wife, actress Stephanie Broadway, and Messing was estranged from her husband, Daniel Zelman. Rumor has it that distance played a big part in their decision to split. Chase has a recurring role on “Nashville,” so he has to spend a lot of time there while Messing shoots “The Mysteries of Laura” in New York City all week. When she’s not working, she makes it a priority to spend time with her son. We wonder how things would have worked out if “Smash” hadn’t been canceled. If it was still going, we bet these two would still be dating and planning a future together.

12. Naya Rivera and Big Sean

This past April, Big Sean ended his engagement to Naya Rivera. Things hadn’t been going well for these two for a while. According to his camp, she was controlling, jealous and angry and he couldn’t take it anymore and she accused him of stealing from her. They really seemed to have jumped headfirst into the relationship. They had only been dating for about six months when they got engaged and things deteriorated pretty quickly after that. These two both wasted no time moving on after they broke up. Big Sean hooked up with Ariana Grande and they have now been dating for months; however, they only recently took their relationship public. Rivera, on the other hand, wasted no time getting down the aisle. She married Ryan Dorsey this past July on the very same day that she was supposed to marry Big Sean. No one even knew that these two were dating prior to their wedding.

11. Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald

Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald were only married for two years when they announced that they were going to end their marriage this past March. He was reportedly pretty broken up over everything. Sources say that he really wanted to spend the rest of his life with her, but she was the one who decided to end it. Rumor has it that the marriage fell apart because he wasn’t making as much money and her career didn’t really go anywhere after “Twilight.” While McDonald may be licking his wounds, Reed seems to have bounced back pretty quickly after the breakup. She quickly moved on to Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev’s ex. These two seem pretty serious. Whether they are on social media or out and about in Los Angeles, these two are all over each other. They even adopted a kitten together! Only time will tell if this one can last!

10. Zooey Deschanel and Jamie Linden

After dating for two years, Zooey Deschanel and her boyfriend Jamie Linden split this past August. These two began dating after she separated from her ex husband Ben Gibbard. It didn’t take long for the “New Girl” star to move on. Shortly after announcing her breakup with her screenwriter boyfriend, she was spotted with getting cozy with a new man, Jacob Pechenik, the producer for her new film “Rock the Kasbah.” As far as we know, these two are still going strong, which can only mean one thing – Deschanel moves fast! She was single for like 5 minutes after her breakup with Linden. According to her, she is looking for someone more like herself, so we’re guessing that Pechenik fits the bill. “I’d be more likely to go for somebody who is like me,” she told Cosmopolitan UK. “Well, I like creative people, so whatever that means…Yeah, authentic and creative.”

9. Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose

This past October, Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose announced that they had split. These two had started dating in early 2011 and were married this past July. The marriage came to a complete end after she reportedly walked in on him in bed with twin sisters. The rapper slammed reports that he had cheated, claiming that he and his wife were already broken with up when she walked in on him with these siblings. Sources close to the pair claim that they had been having problems for quite some time before they threw in the towel. Friends have said that they didn’t get to know each other well enough before they got married, which is what caused problems later on for them. It sounds like these two were probably not a great match to begin with and passion led them to jump in despite all the warning signs.

8. Jamie Bell and Evan Rachel Wood

Jamie Bell and Evan Rachel Wood had an on-again, off-again relationship for years. They first began dating in 2005, but split a year later. Both of them went on to date other people and, in 2011, they hooked up again and married the following year. A year later, they welcomed their first son. We really thought these two were meant to be; however, in May of this year, they suddenly announced that they had separated after 19 months of marriage. Wood wasted no time getting back into the dating game. She started flirting with Katherine Moennig on Twitter last February, a few months before she announced her split from Bell. These two reportedly struck up a friendship and then dated for about a month this past fall; however, as quickly as the relationship began, it ended. Wood has hinted via Twitter that her breakup with Moennig has been pretty hard. Hopefully 2015 will be better for her!

7. Adriana Lima and Marko Jaric

Adriana Lima announced this past May that she is separating from her husband of five years, Marko Jaric. These two met back in 2007 through a mutual friend. The following June, they were engaged and, several months later, they married on Valentine’s Day. They currently have two daughters together. According to Lima, she waited until she was married to lose virginity. “Sex is for after marriage,” she said. “[Men] have to respect that this is my choice. If there’s no respect, that means they don’t want me.” Lima and Jaric have not given any reasons for why they have decided to go their separate ways; however, there have been rumors circulating that he may have been unfaithful. None of these reports have been confirmed, though, and neither one of them has actually filed for divorce yet. This makes us think that it could be possible that they might just reconcile at some point. Only time will tell.

6. Angie Harmon and Jason Sehorn

Angie Harmon and Jason Sehorn recently announced that they are divorcing after 13 years of marriage. Things really began to go downhill for these two when she accepted a role on “Rizzoli & Isles” four years ago. She and her husband and three daughters were living in North Carolina full time; however, because of the show, she had to spend eight months of the year filming in Los Angeles. These two really didn’t want to raise their children in California, so Sehorn stayed behind in North Carolina with their children. Although Harmon and Sehorn have both said that their hectic schedules are to blame for their split, rumor has that the marriage ended because these two were both acting single while they were apart. Sources claim that he was hanging out a lot with his unmarried friends and she was flirting up a storm on the set on “Rizzoli & Isles.” So much for good Christian values!

5. Sarah Hyland and Matt Prokop

Sarah Hyland and Matt Prokop broke up this past August after five years of dating. Although sources initially claimed that it was a clean break, it quickly became clear that it was anything but. In September, she filed a restraining order against her ex stating that he had been verbally and physically abusive towards her during the last four years of their relationship, going so far as to threaten to kill her and himself. In October, Hyland was granted a three-year restraining order from her ex, so hopefully this situation is over with for good. Sources claim that Prokop was really jealous of Hyland and her promising career. He is also an actor, but he hasn’t had nearly the success that she has. His most notable role to date was as a guest star on her show, “Modern Family.” Hopefully he gets the help he needs so that he doesn’t do this sort of thing to anyone else.

4. Robin Thicke and Paula Patton

Paula Patton caught everyone off guard this past February when she announced that she was separating from her husband of almost 10 years, Robin Thicke. These two had been dating since they were teenagers, marrying in 2005. They have one son together, Julian. While Thicke had been in the music business for years, it was his 2013 summer hit “Blurred Lines” that made him a household name, among other things. It seems that as soon as Thicke became a superstar, he started behaving like a slime ball as well. He was caught on numerous occasions getting a bit too close with women who weren’t his wife. Once Patton announced that they were separated, he made several public attempts to woo her back, but to no avail. This past October, she finally filed for divorce. Both of them have reportedly moved on. Thicke has been spotted out and about with a model who is almost 20 years his junior.

3. Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie

This past January, Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie announced that they had separated after three years of marriage. Sources say that the couple decided to call time on their relationship because the romance between them was gone. She reportedly didn’t feel that he was putting enough effort into the relationship and, despite counseling, they weren’t able to make things work. These two don’t have any plans to divorce in the near future. Even though they are currently separated, Duff and Comrie are much like Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin. They are spotted together frequently with their son, acting like a happy family. Who knows what the future holds for these two. According to Duff, if there wasn’t a chance of them getting back together, they would have already filed for divorce. This sounds promising to us! We wouldn’t be surprised if these two got back together at some point in the future.

2. Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin

People were caught off guard earlier this year when Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin suddenly announced their plans to “consciously uncouple” after over 10 years of marriage. Reasons for the split remain unknown. In their separation announcement, they made it clear that things hadn’t been working for at least a year and that this wasn’t the first time that they had separated. Now that these two are officially uncoupled, they seem to get along better than when they were married. They have been spotted together acting really friendly on multiple occasions. Neither one of them has yet to file for divorce; however, they are both rumored to be dating other people. Paltrow is reportedly dating Brad Falchuk, producer of “American Horror Story” and he is involved in an on-again, off-again thing with Jennifer Lawrence. Some people still believe that these two will get back together at some point; however, we wouldn’t be so sure.

1. Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas

This past June, Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas announced their plans to divorce “in a loving and friendly manner” after 17 years of marriage. These two met and fell in love on the set of “Too Much” back in 1995. They were both married at the time; however, they ended their respective marriages and then married each other a year later. They have one child together, a daughter named Stella. Sources say that the split was not out of the blue and that Griffith and Banderas had been having problems for some time. The couple’s fights and separations reportedly got to be too much. Over the years, Griffith has battled addictions issues, which has sent her to rehab and, on more than occasion, Banderas has been spotted acting like a single man in the company of other women. We really thought these two had the recipe for a long lasting relationship – guess not!
