This year is flying by and, even though we are more than halfway through the year and have tons of time left for major celebrity drama, some big breakups have already happened. Unfortunately, a long lasting celebrity relationship is rare but, when it comes to these couples, we thought for sure they were going to make it, or at the very least, make it for a little longer than they did. Seemingly happy relationships have fallen apart and divorce papers are being filed, leaving us all stunned that these couples have called it quits. Perhaps some will reconcile, for others that does not seem likely. Check out the 6 most shocking splits Of 2015…so far.

7. Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefani

The ultimate rockstar couple Gavin Rossdale, 49, and Gwen Stefani, 45, shocked everyone with news of their divorce in early August for so many reasons. While all celebrities get dragged through the rumor mill, two A-listers in a marriage usually endure way more when it comes to media attention, however these two always seemed rock solid and happy, and in love. After 19 years together and 13 years of marriage we thought they would grow old together while raising their three children, but it was not to be, as there seemed to be issues below the surface of happiness. Whatever the reason for the split may be, everyone was definitely blind-sided and saddened by the end to what looked like an undying romance.

6. Nick Jonas and Olivia Culpo

Nick Jonas, 22, and Olivia Culpo, 23, are still very young, so the odds of them sticking it out forever were low, but it sure seemed they were headed towards marriage. For one split second, during Jonas’ performance at the 2015 Miss Universe Pageant in January, everyone, including Culpo, thought he was using the moment to propose. Luckily, the moment of him grabbing her hand while getting down on one knee passed and no ring was presented because only five months later the couple broke the whole relationship off. The pop star and former Miss Universe dated for two years and there was no sign of trouble before they split up quite suddenly, which left us shocked. After the split, Culpo used her social media to write about heartbreak and Jonas kept insisting that she is “amazing” and they “had a great, a beautiful two years together.” We all thought they were headed for a lot longer than two years.

5. Patrick Dempsey and Jillian Fink

2015 has not been Patrick Dempsey’s year, professionally or personally. Dempsey usually keeps his family life private and, as they saying goes, “no news is good news,” but not in the case of the actor and his wife Jillian Fink. All of us who assumed marriage to McDreamy must be amazing were wrong, as Fink shockingly filed for divorce in late January. The two released a joint statement saying, “It is with careful consideration and mutual respect that we have decided to end our marriage,” but after 15 years and three children it was very surprising they couldn’t work it out. Although the divorce came as a shock, it was nothing compared to the death of Dempsey’s Grey’s Anatomy character.

4. Britney Spears and Charlie Ebersol

At 33-years-old, Britney Spears has been through enough drama and bad relationships to last her a lifetime and fans couldn’t have been happier when it seemed she had finally found love and happiness with a nice, normal guy (for once), TV producer Charlie Ebersol. Sure, they had only been together for eight months, but it definitely seemed like the real deal for Spears who had become heavily guarded after a series of bad relationships. That’s why it was shocking when the two lovebirds split in June after months of grand displays of affection and gushing over each other in interviews. Although all seemed well and probably headed for marriage, one friend of Spears did tell Us Weekly, “I just felt like he was in it for the wrong reasons.” Too bad because Spears definitely deserves the love she’s been chasing since her Justin Timberlake dating days.

3. Scott Disick and Kourtney Kardashian

The most shocking thing about this breakup is that it seems to be sticking! Reality stars Scott Disick, 32, and Kourtney Kardashian, 36, have been in an on-again, off-again relationship for almost ten years and have gone through some serious drama, a lot of which fans of Keeping Up With the Kardashians have been privy to via the show. Luckily, when Scott wanted to get married, Kourtney refused, because even with a lot of history and three kids, the two seem to have finally met the end of their relationship. Disick’s party-boy status definitely overrules his boyfriend and father status and, after a cheating scandal and even more partying on his part, Kardashian has seemingly finally come to her senses and is done for good. It is definitely shocking they officially split, but it would be even more shocking if they stayed together after all that.

2. Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert

No-one saw this coming and not for lack of reports of a troubled marriage. Country superstars Blake Shelton, 39, and Miranda Lambert, 31, had been married for four years and together for about ten. During that time, they battled an endless onslaught of rumors. More than once, each was faced with accusations of cheating and there was even a big story about a “multi-million” divorce; however, the two stuck by each other and even joked about reports on social media. Then, out of nowhere, it was true — they really were breaking up when they announced in late July they were divorcing. It was later discovered they had already signed the papers and the marriage was done, leaving no hope for reconciliation. The surprise of the announcement matched with how quickly it was finalized left us stunned. Fortunately, regardless of more cheating rumors, the two seem to be amicable and another bonus — Blake Shelton is back on the market!

1. Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner

Every once in awhile, amidst the headlines of many celebrity breakups and divorces, you look at two A-listers who never make headlines and, when they do, it’s because they are gushing about the other, and that couple was often Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner. The two seemed genuinely happy with each other and with their family life and, even when Affleck made a comment about calling marriage to Garner “work,” she laughed it off and said she knew he meant it as a compliment. When divorce rumors started swirling, many people didn’t notice. The two seemed too dedicated and in love to breakup, but then they did in late June and we couldn’t believe it. With ten years of marriage, many assumed they were in it for the long run, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell style, but that wasn’t the case. They put on an air of friendship, but the more time that goes on, the more that comes out about trouble between the two, which is heartbreaking for those who looked to this as a diamond in the rough of so many doomed celebrity marriages.
