Actor Skylar Astin will be joining the cast of Grey’s Anatomy in a recurring role for season 18.
According to Deadline, the actor will play the role of Todd Earnes, an environmental science expert. A representative for ABC confirmed a description for the character which reads: “Charming and handsome with a gentle soul, Eames holds a PhD in environmental sciences and loves a good spreadsheet. He is close with his sister, who is a pregnant patient at Grey Sloan Memorial.”
ABC reps were quiet about the matter, but fans are speculating that Earnes may be a potential love interest for OB-GYN resident Jo Wilson, played by Camilla Luddington.
Astin’s storyline on Grey‘s will begin later this month, in season 18, episode 13 titled “Put the Squeeze on Me,” which will air on March 24th.
Astin’s career in the entertainment space first began in the musical theater world where he played the role of Georg in Spring Awakening. Fans will also recall that he played the role of Jesse in Pitch Perfect (2012) and Pitch Perfect 2. In terms of his television roles, he held roles on the series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.
Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
