NeNe Leakes’ husband Gregg Leakes has sadly passed at the age of 66 after a battle with colon cancer.
Publicist and longtime family friend Ernest Dukes confirmed on Wednesday that Gregg passed “peacefully” in his home while surrounded by his family.
“Today the Leakes family is in deep pain with a broken heart. After a long battle with cancer, Gregg Leakes has passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by all of his children, very close loved ones and wife Nene Leakes,” Dukes shared in a statement.
“We ask that you pray for peace and strength over their family & allow them to mourn in private during this very very difficult time.”
NeNe recently addressed Gregg’s health to patrons of The Linnethia Lounge in Duluth, Georgia. In the video she says, “My husband is transitioning to the other side.” The next day, the Real Housewives of Atlanta star also shared an image of the word “Broken” on Instagram with the prayer and broken heart emojis.
Gregg was first diagnosed with Stage III colon cancer in 2018, but went into remission for two years. This past June, NeNe shared that Gregg had been hospitalized and recovering from surgery due to the return of his cancer.
“It’s difficult,” she said during an Instagram Live at the time. “He’s super small. If you’ve ever been around somebody who’s had cancer before, he’s different. He’s different.”
Gregg and NeNe have a long history together. The couple wed in 1997, divorced in 2011, but remarried in June 2013 and have been together ever since. They share one son together, 22-year-old Brentt Leakes.
