Gilmore Girls: Reasons We Want To Live In Stars Hollow

WB

Gilmore Girls was easily one of the best shows on television during it’s seven season run from 2000 to 2007. This is probably why it was recently revived for a four-part miniseries called Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life on Netflix. Starring Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, the comedy-drama series was well known for its fast-paced dialogue and continuous pop culture references, but one of the best parts of the show was the amazing town of Stars Hollow, where it all took place. This quaint little town was a big part of Gilmore Girls, and unlike some of the settings in other shows, we actually wouldn’t mind living there! Here’s a list of 10 reasons we want to live in the town of Stars Hollow!

10. The Best Burgers and Coffee

We admit coffee and burgers don’t sound like the greatest combination, but there was something about the way Lorelai and Rory talked about those burgers from Luke’s that we just couldn’t resist. The food there always looked so good, especially the breakfast! Let’s not forget they are constantly raving about the quality of coffee at Luke’s and have never been able to find a cup anywhere else that is nearly as good. We can all agree, there’s nothing more tempting than a great cup of coffee!

9. Friendly Neighbors

Gilmore Girls might be all about Lorelai and Rory, but it’s the minor characters who really steal the show! This town is full of friendly and caring neighbors like Kirk, Lane, Babette, Taylor, Sookie and Miss Patty, who are all more than willing to lend a helping hand. Remember when Luke’s uncle died and Lorelai and Rory helped plan his funeral and wake? Or when the whole town stayed at the Dragonfly to make sure they were ready to open for business. There’s plenty of love to go around Stars Hollow, even if it sometimes gets a little misconstrued…like when Taylor or Kirk are involved, but at the end of the day they always help each other out. We also wouldn’t mind hearing some of Miss Patty’s hilarious stories that seem to be a little embellished. Plus, leave it to Babette and Miss Patty to make rumors and small town gossip look like something endearing.

8. They Have a Town Troubadour

Do we really have to embellish on this one? Who wouldn’t love a town troubadour who walks around and sings songs about the town! Singer and songwriter Grant-Lee Phillips played the important role of the town troubadour in Gilmore Girls, and despite having a small role on the show, he was an amazing part of the cast! He always seemed to be singing the right song at the right moment, queuing up something special that was about to happen and definitely set that magical atmosphere we love so much about Stars Hollow.

7. There’s Always Something Going On

Stars Hollow might be small and quaint, but it’s far from boring! It seems like there’s a new town event, festival or even just a contest going on nearly every weekend. There’s the dance marathon, Founders Firelight Festival, Festival of Living Art, Bracebridge dinner, snowman building contest, Bid-A-Basket Festival, and all those revolutionary war re-enactments — we just can’t get enough! The residents of Stars Hollow are never left sitting at home on a weekend or feeling left out. Whenever there’s a town event, everyone pitches in which definitely makes it feel more like an extended family than just a community.

6. Weekly Town Meetings

Stars Hollow manages to make something as mundane as a town hall meeting look so picturesque! We definitely wouldn’t mind attending these every Thursday night, especially if it means watching Taylor hum and ha over silly topics. The Stars Hollow town meetings are definitely more for him than anyone else, but they can still be pretty entertaining when the lovable and quirky small business owners go toe-to-toe over odd grievances. We’d probably want to sit near Lorelai and Rory who often bring snacks, sit in the back, and make snarky comments to annoy Taylor.

5. Amazing Take Out

It’s safe to say Lorelai and Rory rarely ever eat a home cooked meal unless they are at someone else’s house or have Sookie cooking for them, otherwise they are ordering takeout at one of the many different options in Stars Hollow. Through a trial and error process, these two know all the best places to order takeout, whether it’s pizza, Chinese, Greek, Indian or just grabbing a couple donuts to go from Luke’s, it’s pretty clear there’s no shortage of amazing take out restaurants in this little town. When it comes to eating out? They’ve got Luke’s Diner, Weston’s Bakery, Al’s Pancake World, Antonioli’s Restaurant and The Hungry Diner. We also wouldn’t mind tasting some of Sookie’s famous cooking!

4. No Traffic and Walking Distance

As if we needed anymore reasons to absolutely love Stars Hollow, but we’re pretty crazy about the fact that Lorelai and Rory are pretty much able to walk wherever they need to go and when they do drive? There’s absolutely no traffic! Only a long red light or two, but they definitely get to have the best of both worlds. They live in a beautiful, quaint small town, but are just a hop, skip and a jump away from the big town of Hartford, Connecticut. Just make sure to watch out for the deer…

3. Real Estate with One of a Kind Homes

What makes Stars Hollow so great is that it has this ‘one of a kind’ feel to it, which includes the real estate! All of the houses are different and unique, but also have great property and seem to be quite affordable. How does a single mother who runs an inn afford that big beautiful house? Or even when Sookie and Lorelai bought the property for the Dragonfly Inn — that must have been expensive, or possibly just the only place with affordable housing? All signs point to real estate in Stars Hollow being pretty cheap, but we’re guessing new properties don’t come around as often as we saw when Luke put his bid on a house that he’d been wanting forever.

2. Magical Atmosphere

We can’t quite put our finger one what it is, but there’s something about Stars Hollow that just seems a little big magical. It might have something to do with all the amazing people who live there, the fact that it’s always quiet and calm with no big shops or malls and only small stores and boutiques. It definitely has something to do with the fact that there’s beautiful twinkling lights hanging all around and a quaint gazebo at the center of all the main events. When winter comes around, things get even more beautiful. How is it that Connecticut always gets the perfect amount of snow?

1. Lorelai and Rory Live There

One of the main reasons we watch Gilmore Girls is because of the two leading ladies, Lorelai and Rory! Who wouldn’t want to travel to Stars Hollow and engage in a meet and greet with these two? This mother-daughter duo have the best relationship and quite possibly the best taste in movies, music and food. We could definitely go for sitting on the couch all day and binge on movie sand snacks. Although we must admit, we’d have to brush up on our pop culture references before going toe-to-toe with these two. After watching episode after episode of their quick and witty dialogue — we kind of want to engage in some of their fun-loving banter!
