9 Worst Movie Sequels of the Past Decade

Binge-Worthy Iconic Movie Franchises And How Long It Takes

Sequels seem to always be problematic. Most are not very good and certainly not as good as the first movie. Many should never have been made at all. Looking over the last decade, here are a few that certainly should have stayed on the story board:

1. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008)

This sequel simply did not pack the wallop that the first movie did. The story was predictable and the acting fairly wooden. Plus, the Prince was not a good enough actor to carry the story. It was clear that the purpose of the movie was to use special effects, not to just tell the story. Rotten Tomatoes scored this move at 67% while the original was scored at 76%.

2. Terminator Salvation (2009)

There was just no need to make the sequel. The terminator was really complete with both the first and second movies, which were really good, and can almost stand on their own. And, then they had made a third. This was the fourth. I kept hoping the machines won. Rotten Tomatoes rated this movie at 33% while the three movies were rated at 100%, 92% and 70% respectfully.

3. Superman Returns (2006)

This worked out to be the worst Superman movie ever. This movie had an uninspired story and proves that just because an actor looks right, it does not mean he or she can act. Rotten Tomatoes rated this movie 56% versus a rating of 90% for the other first Superman movie. Ms Tessbacker would be very disappointed with this movie.

4. Ocean’s Twelve (2004)

Don’t know what happened here, perhaps the movie was rushed out. This movie had no fun moments between the crew, very little suspense and mostly you wanted the casinos to catch Ocean’s group. Ocean’s Eleven and Twelve make a great pair of movies to show as an example of what to do and what not to do. Rotten Tomatoes agrees, rating Oceans Twelve at 55% and rating Oceans 11 at 82% . Fortunately, Oceans Thirteen was made to redeem this movie and was ultimately rated 70% by the folks at Rotten Tomatoes.

5. Spiderman 3 (2007)

This sequel featured a story mostly about the psyche of Spiderman. While this could have been interesting, it just wasn’t enough for a whole movie. And of course, Spiderman fighting himself was kind of boring. While Spidey looked good in black, there was way too much of it in this boring movie. The violence seemed out of place as did the other characters in the movie. Rotten Tomatoes rated this move at 69%, after rating the first two Spiderman movies at 89% and 73%.

6. Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous (2005)

I don’t know why this movie was made. Yes, I do, actually. Money. Anyway, this story was ridiculous and the bad characters of William Shatner and “Martha Stewart” were sadly the funniest thing about this movie. Sometimes you can tell too much of a story and that happened here. Rotten Tomatoes rated this move at 15% and the first move at 42%. Surprisingly, Sandra still had a career after this movie.

7. The Hangover Part 2 (2011)

This movie was simply an attempt to repeat the first movie. It was predictable and not very funny because you knew how it was going to end. If at all possible, skip this movie. This first one had a few slow moments that were silly, this describes the whole second movie. Rotten Tomatoes agrees, rating the second one at 39% and the first one at 79%.

8. Legally Blonde 2: Red White and Blonde

This movie was just a bad idea. The point of the first movie was that the plucky blonde succeeds despite have a number of features associated with being a “blonde.” It was finished at the end. But no, we had to have another adventure. No one needed to find out the next steps, because we already saw them. Rotten Tomatoes rated this movie at 38% and its original title at 68%. Good job, tomatoes!

9. Shrek the Third (2007)

Shrek did not really need one sequel, but the second movie was cute and tied up a few loose ends from the first. The third movie did neither and mostly drove families away from the series altogether. Whoever thought characters playing other characters would be fun was wrong. Skip this one for the kids. Rotten Tomatoes rated this move at 40% and the first two Shrek movies at 89% and 89%.
