Fake pregnancy announcements and jokes can be sensitive subjects for many people as Teen Mom OG stars Catelynn and Tyler Baltierra learned earlier this week.
Catelynn took to her social media on Tuesday, April 4 to post an Instagram photo of an ultrasound with a cartoon baby over the sonogram. “Proud to announce a new baby Baltierra @tylerbaltierramtv,” she captioned the photo. While fans were quick to congratulate the pair, shortly after the MTV star posted another photo revealing it was just a joke as it read, “I’m just kidding…but seriously I would love one soon.”
Soon, many attacked the pair for being insensitive to many women and couples who have trouble conceiving. “Don’t think that’s funny lots of women can’t get pregnant this is not a funny joke,” one social media user wrote. Another said, “Yes it’s obviously fake, but the fact still remains that it’s a joke about pregnancy..there is nothing lightly to be taken about pregnancy. Bringing life into the world is a HUGE privilege that some don’t seem to take seriously.”
Tyler Baltierra responded to the backlash with a tweet, writing, “Apparently the world can’t take jokes anymore… don’t worry #TeenMomOG will be back on the air soon so we can disappoint you some more. I actually love all of those critics. The fake profile pics & repetitive insults based on the lack of creativity…they just crack me up.”
When another asked him if he understand why some people saw it as insensitive, he responded, “Yes, I’m the lowest piece of s–t, insensitive, entitled, a–hole & a sorry excuse of a human being & I shouldn’t be allowed to reproduce.”
The reality stars, who have now been together for over 10 years and married for almost two, began their journey on TV when they appeared on 16 and Pregnant and gave their baby daughter Carly up for adoption. They are now parents to another daughter, Novalee, 2.
