9 Things You Didn’t Know About Megan Fox

Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green have split after five years of marriage, eleven years together and two children together. We aren’t completely surprised given the implosion of celebrity couples lately (recent breakups include Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, plus Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton, and Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt), but eleven years is a long time, and it really did seem like Megan and Brian were in it for the long haul. Here are 9 things you didn’t know about Megan Fox:

9. She’s only 29

Although she’s a married mom, Megan is only 29, while Brian is 42. They met when she was just 18 years old, on the set of her ABC sitcom Hope & Faith. They got engaged in 2006, but called it off in 2009, when she was still only 23. (They ended up getting engaged again a year later, and went through with it not long after.) Girl, we’re excited for you to get back out there! Megan spent the entire decade of her twenties with one man — a man 13 years older than she is. She also made some pretty big decisions about her life at a very young age.

8. She wanted to parent without a nanny

Although Megan and Brian have both made a lot of money from their various film and TV roles, Megan wanted to take care of her kids without the help of a nanny, unlike many actors. “It’s a lot of work and I didn’t hire any help because I overestimated my own abilities,” she admitted to the UK’s Daily Mirror in December 2012 after their son Noah was born. “I had no idea how difficult babies could be, so Brian and I were exhausted. You never sleep and you’re awake all night and your entire life is devoted to this little thing that needs you constantly.” She actually dropped the D-word in reference to how tired they were. “Two weeks ago I said to Brian, ‘We have to get a night nurse or we’re going to get a divorce,'” she told the paper. “‘Because somebody’s got to sleep in this house or we’re going to kill each other.'”

7. She admitted that her sex life disappeared

When Megan was doing press for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie, she admitted that being a parent got in the way of her sex life with Brian. “Brian doesn’t get any intimacy whatsoever,” she told Entertainment Tonight. She explained further in an appearance on The View: “My [2-year-old son Noah] sleeps in bed with us, so there’s really no way,” she said. She also said that she and Brian wouldn’t go out on very many dates after having kids because it just wasn’t worth it to take hours getting ready and going out somewhere.

6. She keeps an incredibly strict diet

Looking at her body, we aren’t surprised to hear that Megan never eats carbs or treats.  “I cut out all bread and those sort of carbohydrates,” she told E! News. “No crackers, no pretzels, no chips. Nothing unhealthy. The worst thing I put in my body is coffee, once a day.” And when she says “nothing,” she really means it. “I don’t have any cheat days,” she said. “But if I did, it would be pizza or cake.” She claims that her personality has made the strict diet doable. “It’s like giving up smoking. I gave up smoking cold turkey,” she continued. “I’m one of those people when I’m committed, there’s no stopping me. So, I did it and after about a week, it repulses me. Like, there’s bread over there and never again would I put that in my body.” At least she isn’t bragging about eating pizza and cake all the time while magically being thin, right?

5. She didn’t appear on her husband’s episode of Flipping Out

Now that Megan and Brian are separated, many people are looking back through interviews and appearances to see if there were any clues that would have indicated that things weren’t going well. When Brian filmed an episode of Bravo’s house-flipping show Flipping Out (the episode aired July 1), Brian worked with the show’s hosts Jeff Lewis and Jenni Pulos to renovate a Camarillo home intended for him, Fox and their two sons, Noah and Bodhi, to live in. But Megan never appeared on the show, even though this was going to be her house, too. (Reports say that they were already taking time apart at this time.) We understand that her schedule was probably busy, but when Brian was asked about his wife, he didn’t say much. A source explained to E! News, “You can probably draw your own conclusions as to why she didn’t make an appearance.”

4. She’s tried brown, red and blonde hair

Megan’s long, dark brown hair is a distinctive part of her look – but she’s also gone red and blonde. In May, she was spotted with a short, blonde, wavy bob while she was filming on the set of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 (yep, they’re really making a sequel). Paired with a pencil skirt, button-up white shirt, black glasses and a red statement lip, the hair made her look completely transformed. For the previous movie, she tinted her hair red, and we’ve also seen her experiment with the big ombre trend.

3. She isn’t DEFINITELY getting divorced

Right now, Megan and Brian are simply separated — so they may get back together sometime in the future (which wouldn’t be shocking, given that they once got engaged, called it off, and then got engaged again later.) “They will always love each other very much and are devoted to their kids,” a source told People magazine. Anything could happen in the future, but for now they’ve decided it’s best to take some time apart.”

2. She doesn’t feel like her bad-girl image is accurate

Megan Fox has always been portrayed as something of a bad girl, someone who’s wearing a metaphorical “Don’t hate me because your boyfriend loves me” t-shirt. And while her look as a tough, smoldering kind of vibe, she says she’s never really been a bad girl at all. (Come on, she’s been with the same guy since she was 18!)  “For some reason I still have this sort of bad girl image, even though I’ve been in the same relationship for 10 years and I have two babies,” the actress said on The View. “So, for whatever reason I’m quotable in a way that a media likes to play up this sort of bad girl thing, and people can’t sort of grasp me being a mom.”

1. Don’t believe the reports that she was “obsessed” with getting roles

Some people claim that Megan and Brian broke up because Brian wanted Megan to be more family-oriented, while Megan was “obsessed” with her career and getting more film roles. First off, there’s nothing wrong with career ambition — but secondly, this idea goes against everything Megan has ever said in interviews.  “I’ve never been validated by work or fame or Hollywood or any of that. I recognize the blessings when they come – like, I recognize I’m so lucky to work with Judd Apatow – but the ultimate satisfaction for me is being with my son,” she said in an interview with Marie Claire UK in March 2013. “All I wanted to do my whole, whole life was have a baby and, now, I’ve finally done it. I just want to give Noah as much of myself as I can. And I want to have more kids. That is where my heart is.”
