Lizzie McGuire is on her way back for a whole new generation!

On Friday, August 23, beloved Lizzie McGuire star Hilary Duff was on hand at the Disney+ presentation at the D23 Expo to confirm the return of the series and that she will be leading it!

“Just like me and everybody who loved Lizzie and grew up with her, Lizzie also grew up,” Duff said onstage. “She is older, she is wiser, she has a much bigger shoe budget, which is exciting. She has her dream job. She has the perfect life.”

Original series creator Terri Minsky will once again be behind the series, and the show will have Lizzie navigating life in New York City right before her 30th birthday. She will be working her dream job as an apprentice to a top designer and dating her dream man, but 13-year-old Lizzie is still inside her head.

Duff also confirmed the news on social media sharing a video and writing, SURPRISE!!! I’ve been trying to contain this excitement for a loooong time while this has been in the works! I am beyond excited to be home again, back with my girl …and into her 30’s

Of returning to the iconic role, Duff said, “The conversations have gone on for a couple of years and the timing just didn’t seem right and now Lizzie is turning 30. For me, she was everybody’s best friend and she was there for us … entering your 30s is a really big deal.”

“I think it’s the right time to set back in and have her go along with you in your 30s and all the fun times, and all of the big monumental moments, and all of the challenges that you’re faced with,” she added. “I just thought that there was an opportunity there for her to be grown up and for her to be there for women again.”
