Because of this, we decided to take a look at celebrities who have fought cancer, won and have had the courage to open up and talk their experiences with it. These celebrities are a great inspiration because they have shown a considerable amount of strength, courage and dignity in how they handled being diagnosed with cancer. 9. Robert De Niro

Robert De Niro has been cancer free now for over a decade. The notoriously private actor was diagnosed with prostate cancer back in 2003 and he reportedly underwent surgery that same year. De Niro was able to make a full recovery because his cancer was detected early and because he had opted for the surgery. While the Oscar-winning actor was able to beat his cancer, his father wasn’t. He died in 1993 of the prostrate cancer.

I just wanted to kind of be rid of this whole thing for me. This was the choice that I made, and it was a tough one,” Applegate said. She has been cancer-free ever since.

So the only thing to really be afraid of is if you don’t go get your mammograms, because there’s some part of you that doesn’t want to know, and that’s the thing that’s going to trip you up. That’s the thing that could have a really bad endgame,” Nixon said
