At only 22-years old singer Sam Smith has the whole world in front of him after catapulting to fame with his incredible vocal talents, talents that have also made him one of this year’s top Grammy nominees with six nominations.
While his career is taking off it is also clear that Smith’s love life isn’t going well, as it appears he has already broken up with new boyfriend Jonathan Zeizel whom he met on the set of his music video for “Like I Can.”
On Tuesday December 20 Smith was performing at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto when he paused to speak to the crowd before continuing on with the song, “Like I Can.”
“When I fell in love with the person who inspired the majority of this record, I had this fight in me to basically end it when I could’ve carried on. But I decided to write this song, and, the day before I wrote this song, I basically went on my phone, and I deleted their number and I deleted everything. The reason why this song is very special for me today is that I’ve actually had to do a very similar thing today with someone I’ve been seeing.”
After the show he posted an Instagram that also seemed to point to a break-up, “Sometimes you just need to lay in bed with a glass of red wine and a football T shirt and listen to Joni Mitchell. It’s been a sad day. Beautiful show, but sad day.”
Smith and Zeizel had only been dating a little while but seemed to be enjoying their time together, even taking a trip to Australia, however Smith previously stated losing love was his way of creating new material, “I’m just going to try and fall in love and make them dump me so I can write another record.”
