Ryan Edwards Opens Up About Latest Arrest, Says It Was A ‘Misunderstanding’
Teen Mom OG star Ryan Edwards is no stranger to run-ins with the law, but fans were still shocked when he was arrested and put into jail on July 23, 2018 and remained behind bars for a week.
At the time, the arrest was cited as related to a previous heroin charge, making many assume that the reality star who had been to rehab was using again. On Wednesday, August 8, Edwards talked to E! News to explain that his arrest wasn’t for drugs at all.
“I got a speeding ticket and while I was pulled over, it came up that I was in violation of my probation because the community service had not been completed,” he explained.
“I didn’t do all of it. I went to jail for not doing all of my community service. It’s not that I wasn’t taking the community service seriously, it’s just that we have so much going on, I didn’t realize the deadline had passed. It was just a misunderstanding. I thought I had more time.”
The 30-year-old added, “I take full accountability. I messed up, but I’ve had a chance to get organized and fix the situation.”
He clarified that drugs were not involved in the arrest, “It was the fact that I got pulled over and had not completed my community service. The only drug-related charge was the original one from two years ago, from before I went to rehab,” he said. “There is nothing new that is drug-related.”
Edwards also explained that because he violated his probation on the terms of community service he was ordered to complete an additional six months of community service after his July arrest.
“Jail was slow. The days were long. It was really hard to be away from my family,” he noted to E! News. “Without a doubt it was a learning experience.”
Now, Edwards and his wife Mackenzie Standifer are looking forward as they are expecting their first child together and apparently quit Teen Mom OG claiming that the network didn’t want to show Ryan as a “recovering addict.”
