In terms of hit shows HBO is certainly on a roll especially with the gritty crime drama True Detective on its roster and, much like the first season, some big name movie stars are making their way to the small screen for season two, one of them being Rachel McAdams.

In a new interview with Marie Claire the stunning 36-year old actress revealed a bit more about her role on the show which airs on June 21 and as it turns out her character is not at all like many of the other roles she has taken on.

“I love that she’s not the girlfriend or the wife,” she told the magazine. “She doesn’t really care what everyone thinks; she feels no responsibility for other people’s feelings. She’s not trying to be charming, which isn’t always the case with a leading lady.”

McAdams will play the role of a California police officer named Ani Bezzerides and not only is Bezzerides not a love interest for one of the male characters, she is one tough lady whom is described as a “hard-drinkin’, hard-gamblin, cigarette smokin’ character.

“I love the exploration of someone who has such a different background from you. That exploration runs to compassion, cracking yourself open and creating more understanding of how weird and amazing life is,” McAdams stated of taking on a different type of female lead.

With the exit of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson from season one, True Detective will also introduce Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn and Taylor Kitsch along with McAdams for the highly anticipated second season.
