The 26 year-old pop star entered rehab at the Timberline Knolls clinic on Friday. Located outside of Chicago, the facility also treated Demi Lovato for her eating disorder and other issues in 2010-2011.
“I’m a crusader for being yourself and loving yourself, but I’ve found it hard to practice,” Ke$ha said in a statement. “I’ll be unavailable for the next 30 days, seeking treatment for my eating disorder…to learn to love myself again, exactly as I am.”
The news comes just after the New Year’s Eve release of Ke$ha’s new music video for her single “Dirty Love.” The video also marks Ke$ha’s directorial debut.
Before entering rehab, Ke$ha tweeted positive New Year’s sentiments, calling 2014 “the year of truth and freedom.”
In the past, she has been open about dealing with negative criticism. She told Seventeen magazine, “I used [negative comments] to motivate me then, and I still do. I remember every person who told me I couldn’t do something or that I was ugly or too fat. I have a “s*** list”—people from my past who have been soulless and judgmental.”
