Hollywood lost a lot of big names in 2014 and while they may be gone, the entertainment strives to make sure they are never forgotten. September saw the loss of the great comedienne Joan Rivers, however, she was noticeably absent from the 2015 Oscars’ “In Memoriam” segment on Sunday February 22.
The star, who passed away at the age of 81 due to medical complications after a botched throat procedure, was also not included in the same segment during the Grammys on Sunday February 8.
Having the famous face left out once again caused extreme backlash as she more than deserves to be included with 38 acting credits to her name and being an iconic staple at all red carpet events on E!’s Fashion Police.
Her acting credits include films like Spaceballs, Iron Man 3 and The Muppets Take Manhattan, but as with the Grammys, a group from the Academy Awards issued a statement that time constraints mean not everyone can be included.
“Joan River is among the many worthy artists and filmmakers we were unfortunately unable to feature in the In Memoriam segment of this year’s Oscar show. She is, however, included in our In Memoriam gallery on Oscar.com.”
As well as many friends and fans on social media, Joan’s daughter Melissa Rivers is also reportedly very upset about her mother’s snub, but did pay tribute to her mother on the red carpet prior to the big show.
“It’s hard to believe it was 20 years ago that my mother and I stood on this red carpet for the first time. We didn’t know that, what was happening was, walking into a building was turning into an event. My mom asked questions that nobody else dare to ask.”
