General Hospital (GH) star Chad Duell has opened up for the first time about his break-up with The Young and the Restless (Y&R) actress Courtney Hope.

Duell recently sat down for a conversation on State Of Mind, the vlog hosted by mental health advocate and GH co-star Maurice Benard. The conversation eventually turned to Duell’s private life, during which Duell discussed the elephant in the room.

“Out of respect to her, I’m not going to delve too much into all this stuff,” he said on the episode, which first aired on Sunday, January 30th.

“All I’ll say is she’s an amazing person, she’s an amazing woman, she’s an amazing dog mom,” Duell elaborated.

When speculation began in mid December that the real-life soap opera couple was deleting their shared photos from social media, it seemed like a bad rumor. Just eight weeks prior, they were celebrating their wedding day in a glamorous, well-publicized event.

“It’s a complicated situation, and it’s not what anybody thinks,” Duell remarked. “I’m not going to get into detail, but it’s not what people think.”

Avid fans of the couple wanted answers for the reported split and pointed to Duell’s first marriage – to Taylor Novack in 2012 – which was annulled within months.

“There wasn’t anything terrible that happened, or someone did anything to anybody else,” Duell added. “We’re still on good terms. She’s an amazing person in so many ways.”

Insisting that he only has “positive things” to say about the Y&R redhead, Duell suggested that the end of the relationship, which began five years prior, was “mutual”.

Incidentally, Duell’s cautious remarks about his falling out with Hope might rekindle some speculation, as he admitted that the couple’s wedding didn’t result in a real marriage!

“We didn’t actually sign anything,” he stated. “We weren’t really, like, you know, married or anything, really.”

“It was amicable, kind of just that. And that’s all I can really say,” Duell summed up. “We always want the best for each other.”
