Sean “Diddy” Combs made headlines for all the wrong reasons recently when he allegedly assaulted one of his son’s football coaches at UCLA, using a kettlebell as a weapon.
Things weren’t looking good for the famous rapper and music mogul following the incident; however, it seems he has caught a break as prosecutors are not filing felony charges, multiple sources have reported. “The case was referred to the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office for misdemeanor filing considerations,” a spokesman for the Los Angeles Country District Attorney’s Office stated.
Initial reports of the incident indicated that Diddy attacked the coach, Sal Alosi; however, afterwards, Diddy was adamant that he acted in self-defense and did not use the kettlebell as a weapon, but held it up to protect himself.
“The various accounts of the event and charges that are being reported are wholly inaccurate. What we can say now is that any actions taken by Mr. Combs were solely defensive in nature to protect himself and his son,” a rep for the rapper said after the incident.
Diddy’s attorney, Mark Geragos, also released a statement after it was announced that felony charges were not going to be filed. “We are thankful that the district attorney rejected felony charges in this matter. This case never should have been part of the criminal justice system to begin with.”
