Many are still unsure of how to feel about the TV movie remake of the beloved 1987 classic Dirty Dancing, and now the cast of the remake are giving viewers a sneak peak before the adaptation airs on ABC in May.
Actress Abigail Breslin has taken on the role of Frances “Baby” Houseman originally portrayed by Jennifer Grey, and shared photos of dancing sequences between herself and her on-screen love interest Colt Prattes, who plays the role of Johnny Castle made iconic by Patrick Swayze in 1987.
“Casually dancing around a fireplace, as one does,” Breslin captioned one photo of herself and Prattes dancing. “AND just casually dippin’ around a fireplace. As one also does,” she captioned another photo.
Other cast members including Sarah Hyland, Colt Prattes, and Debra Messing also took to their Instagram to share pictures. Pratts shared a photo showing Breslin in a white dress similar to the one Grey wore in the final dance number in the original film, writing, “First shot from @dirtydancingmovie! Favorite moment of the film was dancing this number with @abbienormal9. So stoked!”
Hyland shared a photo of herself in character as Baby’s sister Lisa Houseman originally played by Jane Brucker.
Debra Messing shared a collage of photos from the film showing herself as Baby’s mother and the rest of the Houseman family enjoying the events at the Catskills resort. “I am very excited. The original movie was incredibly special to me. I remember seeing it when I was a kid with my mother and just falling in love with everything about,” Messing said of participating in the TV movie remake.
The three-hour film airs Wednesday, May 24 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
