Back in December fans of pop star Avril Lavigne, 30, were asking why they hadn’t seen or heard from her in a surprisingly long time.
Although many celebrities try to keep their privacy, it turns out Lavigne’s absence from the spotlight wasn’t by choice when she revealed to a fan on Twitter that she was dealing with some serious health concerns. “I feel bad because I haven’t been able to say anything to the fans to let them no why I’ve been absent. I’m not feeling well. I’m having some health issues. So please keep me in your prayers.”
Now, in an interview with People magazine, the singer revealed she had been battling a severe case of Lyme Disease, which had been taking a toll on her body for months before she discovered what was wrong. “I could barely eat, and when we went to the pool, I had to leave and go lie in bed. My friends asked, ‘What’s wrong?’ I didn’t know,” she said of her October trip to Vegas.
It wasn’t long after that did doctors finally confirm she had Lyme disease which she believes she contracted from a tick bite the spring before, “I felt like I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t talk and I couldn’t move. I thought I was dying.”
With her husband, Chad Kroeger, 40, on tour with his band Nickelback, she said her mom has been helping her while she recuperates with family at home in Ontario, Canada, and says she is now “80 percent better.”
