(NEW YORK) — Joan Rivers, who just released a book titled Diary of a Mad Diva, was a mad guest on CNN on Saturday. She cut short an interview that she felt had put her on the defensive.

CNN Newsroom host Fredricka Whitfield rubbed Rivers the wrong way when she described Rivers’ critiques on the E! show Fashion Police as “mean in some ways.”

But what really upset the comedienne was Whitfield noting that Rivers wears fur on the cover of her new book. Rivers shot back, “This whole interview is becoming a defensive interview. Are you wearing leather shoes? Then shut up!”

When Whitfield commented that Rivers had upset some people with her brand of comedy, Rivers declared, “I’m going because all you’ve done is negative.” Before walking off, she added, “You are not the one to interview a person who does humor, sorry.”

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Rivers insists she did not walk out on the interview as a publicity stunt. She says, “The CNN interviewer was a news reporter and not an entertainment reporter. She did not seem to understand we were talking about a comedy book and not the transcripts from the Nuremberg Trial. Every question was an accusatory one designed to put me on the defensive.”

The interview came just days after Rivers controversially remarked that President Obama is gay and first lady Michelle Obama is transgender.
