Singer Jessica Simpson became a household name when she starred on the MTV reality show “Newlyweds” with her husband at the time Nick Lachey. Even though she was never as successful as artists like Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears, Simpson has proved that she has some serious staying power. She was given the nickname “Bunny” because of her front teeth. “I can make the best bunny face,” she told PEOPLE. “No one can stay mad at me when I do the bunny face.”


When she was dating Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, Simpson was blamed for his poor performances. Some fans gave her the nickname “Yoko Romo” in reference to Yoko Ono, who many Beatles fans believe broke up the Beatles.


She had auditioned for a part in “The New Mickey Mouse Club” as a child, but choked in the final audition after she saw Christina Aguilera performing. “I froze and forgot everything,” she told PEOPLE in 2000.


Jess underwent LASIK eye surgery in 2004 to correct her vision. Cameras for the reality show caught everything and her experience was aired on Newlyweds.


She is allergic to cheese, wheat, coffee, chocolate, tomatoes, corn and hot peppers.


Simpson has credited Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, Sade and Whitney Houston with influencing her musically and Dolly Parton, Faith Hill, Shania Twain and Martina McBride with influencing the music on her country album, Do You Know.

She dropped out of high school after she was signed to Columbia Records and later earned her GED.


The Christian group “The Resistance” criticized her music video for “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’” for being too sexual. In response, Simpson said, “It didn’t really surprise me because I grew up with a lot of that backlash. That’s why I didn’t end up going into the Christian music industry. I think that if they’re really good Christians the judgment wouldn’t be there.”


To get her rock hard body for “The Dukes of Hazzard,” Simpson worked out two hours a day for two months. She reportedly beat out Britney Spears for the role of Daisy Duke.
