Martha Stewart Slams Gwyneth Paltrow

Here’s a celebrity feud we didn’t expect: Martha Stewart vs. Gwyneth Paltrow.

In an interview with Net-a-Porter’s Porter magazine, the 73 year-old slammed Gwyneth and her lifestyle brand Goop, saying, “She just needs to be quiet. She’s a movie star. If she were confident in her acting, she wouldn’t be trying to be Martha Stewart.”

There are some legitimate criticisms to make of Goop and the absurdly expensive products that it sometimes touts, but Martha’s censure feels overly personal. Why can’t movie stars have multiple interests?

Perhaps Martha feels threatened by actresses trying to move in on her turf?

Martha seems somewhat supportive of actress Blake Lively’s new lifestyle brand Preserve, though. “I think she considers me a kind of mentor,” Martha said about Blake in an interview with Vogue.  She added, “Actresses have a lot of free time between takes. They sit around and they watch stuff and they learn.” Maybe this was said in a disparaging way?

Martha wasn’t only critical of Gwyneth in her Porter interview; She also slammed Lean In author Sheryl Sandberg, for her recommendation that women take the corporate route instead of being entrepreneurial, and Orange is the New Black actress Taylor Schilling for her performance, which Martha says wasn’t “good enough.”
