In a new interview, Mishael Morgan has revealed her reasons for stepping away from The Young and the Restless (Y&R).
The Daytime Emmy winning actress sat down with Soap Opera Digest’s podcast, Dishing With Digest, to discuss why it was “so hard” to walk away from the CBS soap.
“When I came back, [Y&R] really stepped it up and just kind of showed me my worth financially – in storytelling, in everything,” Morgan stated, “and that’s why it was so hard for me to go and have these meetings.”
Those meetings with studio execs were initiated by Morgan because she was hesitant to sign another contract with Y&R, one which would keep her in Genoa City for the next three years.

“I met with everybody and I just told them that this time around, it’s not anything other than the fact that I think this is just the right time for me to kind of move on,” Morgan shared.
Being far from her family in Canada contributed to her decision to leave. Travel restrictions during the global health crisis were a major issue, especially given the tragic passing of several family members in a house fire in April.
“Being away from my family – literally, feeling trapped in L.A. All of my family was in Toronto and just crossing the border was a nightmare,” Morgan admitted. “Just having that experience and kind of really reevaluating what I felt was important for me at this time in my life.”
However, Morgan doesn’t deny that her reasoning is as much about professional ambitions as it is about geography.
“I just felt like I wanted to tell more cutting-edge stories, just in light of Black Lives Matter, and just see what else is out there that I can be connected to,” Morgan shared, as per Daytime Confidential.
“I love Y&R and I love the soaps, but there’s so much going on right now,” Morgan continued. “I just wanted to have this opportunity to go out there and see if there’s another story that I can tell or that I can be an impactful part of.”
