Actress Melissa Claire Egan gave viewers a memorable performance on The Young and the Restless (Y&R) yesterday when her character, Chelsea Lawson, nearly took her own life.

As her rooftop scenes garnered a lot of attention on social media, even co-star Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) joined in with his thoughts.

“MELISSA CLAIRE EGAN HAS GIVEN ABSOLUTELY RIVETING PERFORMANCES!!” Braeden tweeted in caps lock. “I was very moved!”

When the celebrated daytime actress thanked Braeden for his comment, he followed up with more praise.

“You have moved me, girl!” Braeden gushed. “A testament to how real you were in those scenes!!”

This isn’t the first emotional rollercoaster Egan has taken viewers on in recent years, nor is it the first time Braeden has singled out her performance.

Egan’s character has been on a destructive path since she returned to Genoa City last winter. After unsuccessfully trying to reunite with Adam (Mark Grossman), Lawson sabotaged her fashion career and alienated her best friend, Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson).

Finally, after attempting to force a relationship with her biological son Johnny, who she previously gave up for adoption, Lawson nearly ended it all. Thankfully, she was talked down by Billy (Jason Thompson) and received professional help from Sharon (Sharon Case).

Bucking the soap opera trend of supernatural, gory storylines around Halloween, Y&R is getting recognition for tackling serious subjects like mental health and depression. The CBS soap included a disclaimer before the episode as well as public health messages from stars Egan, Thompson and Case.
