Incredibly sad news for the entertainment world this morning. It has been confirmed that Season 6 star of The Voice, Christina Grimmie, has passed away after being shot at her concert in Orlando Florida last night.
According to police reports, the 22-year-old was signing autographs when the shooter approached her, shot her and then shot himself. He did not survive and his identity has not been released. After the shooter fired, Grimmie’s brother tackled him to the ground but, unfortunately, it was too late.
“It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord. She was shot at her show in Orlando, and unfortunately didn’t survive the gun shot wounds,” her rep tells PEOPLE. “We ask at this time that you respect the privacy of her family and friends in their time of mourning.”
Christina competed for Adam Levine’s team on her season of The Voice, placing third overall. Blake Shelton took to Twitter to send his support to her family and friends.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Christina’s friends and family during this difficult time.
