The original cast of Saved By The Bell has opened up about what it feels like returning to the halls of Bayside High for the reboot after all this time.

“It was sort of a trip, stepping back into the Saved By the Bell set,” Mario Lopez shared with PEOPLE. Lopez is known for his role as Bayside High School jock A.C. Slater on the sitcom. He’s returning to the role in the reboot as the school’s new gym teacher.

“The best part of this modern version is not having to rock that mullet that I had back in the day,” Lopez jokes of the hairstyle he was known for in the 90s. “And then seeing the old gang back together again, that’s a lot of fun.”

Elizabeth Berkley, who is reprising her role as Jessie Spano, jumped in to agree with Lopez and share her thoughts. “The minute I stepped into The Max, it blew my mind,” she says, referring to the popular high school hangout spot featured in the teen sitcom.

“Having that history, there’s always something funny or an inside joke, and there’s so such comfort in that,” she continued.

Even new cast members to the reboot recognize that this project is special and how it’s an honor to return to the halls of Bayside with the original cast. “For me, stepping into Bayside was like a dream come true,” says Dexter Darden, who plays Devante. “I mean, I loved watching the show.”

“Growing up and seeing Saved By the Bell, it was so small and so quaint — this is like an enlarged version,” Josie Totah added, who stars as Lexi. “It’s still just as fun, just as campy, and it gives us kind of a ’90s feeling back.”

The Saved by the Bell reboot premieres on November 25th on Peacock.
