Sarah Michelle Gellar and her husband Freddie Prinze Jr. are one of the most low-key celebrity couples in Hollywood. Despite being two of the biggest stars of the ’90s and early 2000s the pair are rarely seen at events and even more rarely talk about their family life, but on Tuesday, May 9, Gellar took to her Instagram to open up about her battle with postpartum depression.

“Having kids is wonderful and life changing, and rarely what you’re prepared for. I love my children more than anything in the world. But like a lot of women, I too struggled with postpartum depression after my first baby was born,” she wrote referencing the birth of her daughter Charlotte in 2009.

She continued,”I got help, and made it through, and every day since has been the best gift. I could ever have asked for. To those of you going through this, know that you’re not alone and that it really does get better.” The 40-year-old who is also mom to son Rocky, ended her message with a call to action by going to callmycongress.com and to contact your rep, she ended it with #NotAPreExistingCondition.”
