It hasn’t taken long for NBC’s This Is Us to become one of TV’s best new dramas, and a lot of its success is thanks to its spectacular casting.

One of the best parts has been former Gilmore Girls star Milo Ventimiglia as Jack Pearson, and ever since it was revealed that his character is dead in the present, fans have been trying to figure out the mystery surrounding his death.

Now, one of the most favorable fan theories has surfaced, and be warned, it is truly heartbreaking. The new theory points towards the beloved Pearson patriarch dying in the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City. According to those who believe this theory, they point to the Big Three’s issues with planes as slowly hinting at this, especially considering both Kevin and Kate have serious issues with flying and at some point in his childhood Kevin destroyed all of the model airplanes that he once loved. The theory also points to the fact that Randall works in New York City and that both he and his mom Rebecca are living in the nearby suburbs which could mean the family grew up there.

While there are some who truly think this theory explains Jack’s death, there are a lot of reasons why it’s probably not true, namely that in the funeral scenes that fans recently saw in small flashbacks, the Big Three seemed to be in their teens at the time of Jack’s death which would mean he died before 2001. Also, many don’t believe This Is Us would go so far to incorporate the tragedy into its drama, and that Jack may have very well died in a plane crash or on a plane, but it is not necessarily connected to 9/11.

What do you think of this theory?
