Having lost both her son and now ex-husband, Mia St. John the ex-wife of the late Young and the Restless star Kristoff St. John is opening up about the last conversations she had with him before his sudden death on February 3, 2019.

“He called me at 11 a.m. and the first thing he said is, ‘Oh Mia, thank God you answered,” Mia, 51, told Entertainment Tonight of speaking to Kristoff on the morning of his death.

“He was just so depressed. We knew he was drinking and just saying he didn’t want to be here anymore,” she added. She then told ET that Kristoff seemed disoriented and told her he saw their late son Julian who died in 2014 at only 24 from suicide.

“‘Julian’s at the door,’” Mia recalled her ex-husband telling her while on the phone. “[He] said, ‘Okay, let’s talk to Julian, bring Julian in,’” she continued

“Julian came in and he said, ‘Julian is gonna take me for a walk now’ and I said, ‘No you aren’t going for a walk right now,’” Mia told ET.

Shortly after their conversation, St. John was found dead in his home, he was 52. “They found him on the floor. They tried CPR and he was already gone,” Mia said.

Along with their phone call, Mia revealed she talked to Kristoff over text “back and forth” for most of the day. “He said, ‘Understand, you’ve got to live in the present. Observe all the good things in your life and others around you. Julian would not want you to live your life with bitterness and upset,’” Mia told the outlet, sharing her ex-husband’s final words.

Kristoff and Mia St. John married in 1991 and split in 1995, but remained close, especially following the death of their son Julian. “When Julian passed… he [Kristoff] literally died of a broken heart. Kristoff suffered from bipolar; our son had schizophrenia. I just felt like it was just hard to get people to pay attention,” Mia explained.

While Mia already started the El Saber es Poder (Knowledge is Power) Foundation in support of mental health awareness, she said with the death of Kristoff, she is increasing her efforts.

“I have never been so determined to change how we treat the mentally ill in this country. I give you my word that my fight is never going to end. I’m going to make my boys proud,” Mia told Entertainment Tonight.

St. John is survived by his fiancée, Kseniya Mikhaleva, as well as daughter Paris with Mia and daughter Lola with ex-wife Allana Nadal.
