The 22-year old entertainer recently opened up about her struggles with bi-polar disorder, and her continued success with sobriety.
Demi is a known sufferer of bi-polar disorder. It’s certainly not an uncommon diagnosis in the 21st century. There are various grades/degrees of the illness, and its still not completely understood by medical science. Once upon a time everything was lumped into a category known as manic depression, and still, that archaic terminology does an excellent job of explaining the pendulum swing of people with bi-polar disorder.
Demi has often remarked on the high highs and the low lows, and it was likely due to her bi-polar struggles that she ventured down many paths that she wished she wouldn’t have, including past drug use and eating disorders.
Demi has been a proponent, and advocate for those who feel they might suffer from such a mental disorder. At its essence, the disorder isn’t merely mental–it has widespread effects on total being, and all surroundings… it’s simply rooted in brain function.
According to Demi, she and her team have found the quality methods of treatment for her disorder, and that has helped her stay strong in other areas of her life, including her sobriety. It’s crazy to think that she’s three years sober at the young age of 22, but no doubt about it, Demi Lovato has done a lot of living in her 22 years.
