Demi Lovato, 22, is one of many former child stars who has struggled with growing up in the spotlight and having everyone criticize and critique as she changes.

Although she has struggled, she has also been very open about her emotional and physical issues in order to try to help other people get through the same sort of things.

In 2010 at 18 years old Lovato entered a three month rehab program for depression, harming herself and an eating disorder after she had a nervous breakdown and admitted she had been “self-medicating” with alcohol and drugs like cocaine.

Now sober and an advocate for healthy living and supporting mental health awareness the young star confessed to Fitness magazine that she almost returned to rehab in the summer of 2013.

When asked how she eats healthy while on tour, Lovato responded, “It’s been difficult. I almost went back to rehab for my eating disorder last summer. I was obsessing over food and terrified of it at the same time. Wilmer [Valderrama, her boyfriend] noticed and called me out on it, which was a relief. I was done being afraid of food and so tired of overeating and not knowing why I did it. Now I’m on a structured meal plan. I eat four small meals and two snacks a day. It’s teaching me portion control.”

While she has been able to keep a handle on her eating habits and remaining healthy she also said she looks towards other women in the spotlight for inspiration such as Beyonce, Iggy Azalea, Jennifer Lopez and the Kardashians who all prove women can have curves and be fit as well.

“They have great figures, but you know they also work really hard for them and don’t try to hide their curviness.”
