Chris Evans has been named this year’s PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive!
People’s 2022 selection was announced on Stephen Colbert’s late-night show and the magazine’s website on Monday night.
“My mom will be so happy,” he told the magazine for its cover story. “She’s proud of everything I do but this is something she can really brag about.” He also added that his friends will definitely tease him about the accomplishment. “Really this will just be a point of bullying,” he joked in an interview. “It’s ripe for harassment.”
While Evans is likely best known for his role as Captain America in Marvel’s Avengers franchise, he’s also had a busy year balancing other projects. In 2022, he starred in Pixar’s Lightyear, Netflix’s Gray Man and filmed three new movies, including 2023’s Ghosted for AppleTV+ which he is also producing.
Through all this, Evans still co-runs A Starting Point, the civic engagement platform he launched in 2020.
Now in his 40s, Evans revealed that he’s trying to find a work-life balance and is more selective about the projects he takes on.”When it comes to seeking out the people I play it’s more of an issue of where the movie shoots,” he says. “I’m too old to be living out of a suitcase for six months and I’ve settled into a nicer phase where I’m just happy being at home.”
A few other celebrities who have been honored as the Sexiest Man Alive throughout the years include Brad Pitt in 1995 and 2000, George Clooney in 1997 and 2006, Johnny Depp in 2003 and 2009, David Beckham in 2015, and Michael B. Jordan in 2020. Last year’s Sexiest Man Alive title went to Paul Rudd.
