The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, surprised everyone yesterday by announcing the launch of their own Instagram account!
In the past, the Royal family has been quite hesitant about allowing its members on social media and it has even been speculated that they created a Royal conduct rule prohibiting it. Kate and William don’t seem to currently have a presence on Instagram, however many of their appearances are documented through the general @kensingtonroyal account. The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall have their own Instagram account documenting the couple’s life by the handle of @clarencehouse which we assume is a similar account format that Meghan and Harry will follow.
Meghan and Harry’s account will go by the handle @sussexroyal and so far has gained 2.4 million followers in the short time it’s been live. The account features one welcome post which they captioned, “Welcome to our official Instagram; we look forward to sharing the work that drives us, the causes we support, important announcements, and the opportunity to shine a light on key issues. We thank you for your support, and welcome you to @sussexroyal.”- Harry & Meghan
We can’t wait to see what these two have in store for their account, which already seems to be a huge success!
