Every single song Taylor Swift does becomes a hit and perhaps her biggest still remains “Shake It Off.”
Now, however the megastar is being sued for $42 million for allegedly stealing the lyrics from a little known R&B singer, Jesse Braham. Braham, who goes by the stage name Jesse Graham says that Swift lifted the lyrics “players gonna play” and “haters gonna hate” from his song “Haters Gone Hate.”
According to a report from the New York Daily News, the singer claims to have copyright ownership of the phrases, which appear in song with the line, “Haters gone hate, playas gone play. Watch out for them fakers, they’ll fake you everyday.”
Aside from that, the songs are not similar at all; however, the 50-year old Braham told the Daily News, “Her hook is the same hook as mine. If I didn’t write the song ‘Haters Gone Hate,’ there wouldn’t be a song called “Shake It Off.” He also stated that he had been in touch with Swift’s label, Big Machine, multiple times and has been denied writing credits on the song as well as selfie with Swift.
Swift, 25, hasn’t commented on the lawsuit surrounding her hit song from her 1989 album as she is currently involved in another lawsuit against a former radio host who she claims groped her while posing for a picture before one of her shows.
