Halle Berry has broken her silence following the news that she and her third husband Olivier Martinez have decided to divorce.
“I’m doing okay, I really am. I keep pushing and I’m really happy to be here,” Berry told Extra while in attendance at a charity event benefiting domestic violence prevention and intervention organization, the Jenesse Center Inc on Wednesday, Nov. 4. “Whenever you’re going through anything in life, when you step outside yourself and focus on others, that’s always the best remedy for any situation that you’d rather not be dealing with,” she added.
She went on to discuss her children Nahla, 7, and Maceo,1, and the stress of now being a single mom in her first interview since it was announced she and Martinez had split.
Afterwards her other ex-husbands spoke out about their experiences with Berry, offering words of warning for Martinez, while her ex-husband David Justice also went on a Twitter rant to clarify he never abused her in their relationship, which he thought was a common misconception.
While Berry has never stated which of her exes had abused her, her experiences led to a moving speech at the Jenesse Center event. “I saw my mother battered and beaten many years of my life and I felt helpless. And that’s what connects me to this organization. I have an understanding, a knowing. I feel like I have something that I can impart to these women. It seems like I’ve overcome it, but I really haven’t. In the quiet of my mind, I still struggle. So while I’m helping these women, I’m helping myself through it, too. And that’s largely why I’m here.”
