Channing Tatum, Dan Aykroyd, Ivan Reitman Developing Another ‘Ghostbusters’

Not to say that they’re counting their chickens before they hatch, but…

Wow. This is a lot of ghostbusting. Paul Feig, director of Bridesmaids, is leading his female Ghostbusters into production this summer, with a release date set for 2016, but that just ain’t enough.

According to Sony brass–yes, the same Sony that basically shut down due to the “North Korean” hackers–they have developed a new production company with Ivan Reitman (the original producer-director) and Dan Aykroyd, entitled GhostCorps. This will serve as the umbrella company that will handle all ghostbusting down the line. Movies, TV shows, new media content, merchandise: you name it.

“We want to expand the Ghostbuster universe in ways that will include different films, TV shows, merchandise, all things that are part of modern filmed entertainment. Paul Feig’s film will be the first version of that, shooting in June to come out in July 2016. He’s got four of the funniest women in the world… the second film has a wonderful idea that builds on that.”

So. What is next, you ask? After the all-female film there will be a “dude” Ghostbusters that will likely star Channing Tatum… and some other dudes. Great.

Can we stop this? Please? A third Ghostbusters film with the original cast would have been a wonder to behold, but the passing of Harold Ramis, who co-wrote the original with Dan Aykroyd, suggested the “reboot” be put on hold until Bill Murray came back around.

Yeah, a new “franchise” will make a ton of money, and it’ll play into all the social agendas of American equality, but will there be substance? In short, are we gonna get another Ghostbusters, or are we gonna get that piece of less than impressive cinema otherwise known as Ghostbusters 2?

Either way, Dan Aykroyd probably doesn’t care. He’s gonna scrape the cream off this crop until the cows come home. And these cows are cash cows.
