The normally very upbeat Taylor Swift, 25, took to her social media on Thursday April 9 to share a sad and sombre note with her fans revealing that her mother, Andrea, has been diagnosed with cancer.

Under the Tumblr post, titled “Just So You Know…,” the singer said her mother did want this shared, but is still asking for privacy regarding her diagnosis and treatment plan.

“Hey guys, I’m writing to you with an update I wish I wasn’t giving you, but it’s important and I’m used to sharing important events in my life with you. Usually when things happen to me, I process them and then write music about how I feel, and you hear it much later. This is something and I thought you should know about now,” she began her note.

The “Style” singer went on to explain that over Christmas she asked her mom to go to the doctor for a checkup, for no particular reason but just to ease any worries from Taylor and her brother.

“The results came in, and I’m saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer. I’d like to keep the details of her condition and treatment plans private, but she wanted you to know.”

Swift went on to state her mother wanted her famous daughter to share the news so that fans would encourage their busy parents to go to the doctor just in case.

“She wanted you to know why she may not be at as many shows this tour. She’s got an important battle to fight. Thank you for caring about my family so much that she would want me to share this information with you. I hope and pray that you never get news like this. Love you. Taylor.”
