The new drama pilot takes place in 1993, one year after the events of the 1991 film The Silence of the Lambs, which starred Jodie Foster as Clarice. Now, the brilliant and vulnerable Clarice, who graduated Magna from UVA with a double major in Psychology and Criminology, is described as having bravery and an inner light that draws monsters and madmen to her. Clarice’s complex psychological makeup comes from her challenging childhood, and her drive comes from her need to escape family secrets that have haunted her throughout her life.

Clarice will make a  “deep dive into the untold personal story of Clarice Starling as she returns to the field to pursue serial murderers and sexual predators while navigating the high stakes political world of Washington, D.C.” according to a description from the network.

Following the series’ announcement, showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet said last month: “After more than 20 years of silence, we’re privileged to give voice to one of America’s most enduring heroes — Clarice Starling. Clarice’s bravery and complexity have always lit the way, even as her personal story remained in the dark. But hers is the very story we need today: her struggle, her resilience, her victory. Her time is now, and always.”

Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet, who wrote the pilot, will serve as executive producers with Heather Kadin and co-executive producer Aaron Baiers.

In addition to Breeds role on Pretty Little Liars, the actress has also recurred on The Originals, while her recent acting credits include The Code and The Brave.
