Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have laid off their 15-member London staff amid royal exit!
PEOPLE confirmed that while getting settled into their new royal life in Canada, the duo decided to let go of members of their London staff. The employees were informed in January that the couple’s Buckingham Palace office would be closing. 15 staff members lost their jobs including private secretary Fiona Mcilwham, communications chief Sara Latham and assistant communications secretary Marnie Gaffney. It’s been reported that some of these employees may be hired back on by other members of the royal family. Meghan and Harry may retain one or two staff members based in London.
The decision to lay off their London staff members is likely a practical decision on the couple’s part since they won’t be spending as much time in London and won’t need as much assistance.
Since stepping down, Harry and Meghan have been spending time in Canada on Vancouver Island. It’s unclear at this time where the couple will settle down with their 9-month-old son Archie, but sources have confirmed the couple is also looking at houses in Los Angeles and will “likely have houses in both places.”
