Everybody loves Taylor Swift’s new album — especially Kelly Clarkson!
At a recent concert, fans in Buffalo, NY got to experience the treat of Kelly singing a cover of Taylor’s song “Shake It Off”.
“This is one of my favorite songs out right now,” Kelly said as she introduced the song. “You think you know it, but you don’t.” After assuring fans that it wasn’t going to be a Sam Smith song, she launched into a slower, blues-influenced rendition of “Shake It Off,” reaching out to Jesus to help her hear the keyboards.
(In fact, from what Kelly said in her introduction, Kelly sees a kind of religious connection in the song.)
Once she got to the chorus, Kelly sped things up a bit, making the song resemble Taylor’s original version a bit more. “I love that song,” Kelly said. “Seriously, everyone gives Taylor such a hard time, but she can write a hook – I’m just sayin’.” Check out the video to see Kelly’s cover!
On Twitter, Taylor herself expressed her approval for the cover as she got ready for the release of her highly anticipated new album, 1989.
“Watching Kelly Clarkson SLAY ‘Shake It Off’ is an excellent way to celebrate 26 HOURS TIL 1989!!!!!! #TS1989” Taylor wrote.
