Grimes And Elon Musk Change Their Newborn Son’s Name

After learning that their newborn son’s unique name didn’t comply with California state laws, Grimes and Elon Musk have changed their son’s name.

The baby, formerly known as X Æ A-12, will now go by X Æ A-Xii, according to a post from Grimes.

On Sunday, May 24, the 32-year-old singer posted a new photo to her Instagram, drawing comments from fans.

“Did you change the baby name because of Californian laws ? What is the baby’s new name?” wrote one social media user. Grimes replied, confirming the name change.

“X Æ A-Xii,” the “Oblivion” singer wrote in one comment, followed up by, “Roman numerals. Looks better tbh.”

According to the California state constitution, names can only use the 26 alphabetical characters of the English language, which many were quick to point out after Grimes and Musk announced their child’s original name.

Grimes and Musk welcomed X Æ A-Xii on May 4, two years after the pair went public with their relationship. The Canadian singer explained their newborn son’s original name on Twitter. “X, the unknown variable,” she tweeted. “Æ, my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence). A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent + (A = Archangel, my favorite song) (metal rat).” However, Musk was quick to point out that she made a mistake in her breakdown, tweeting, “SR-71, but yes,” to which Grimes responded back, “I am recovering from surgery and barely alive so may my typos b [sic] forgiven but, damnit. That was meant to be profound.”

Earlier this month, a source told Us Weekly that “Elon and Grimes have experienced a lot of ups and downs in their relationship throughout Grimes’ pregnancy and have been on and off. Through it all though, they have and will continue to maintain a close friendship.”

They also added, “Regardless of what happens to them romantically, Elon plans to be a father figure and be involved in the life of his child.”

Musk and Grimes were first linked in May 2018. The Telsa CEO and singer have faced split rumors repeatedly throughout their relationship. Grimes (whose real name is Claire Boucher) announced her pregnancy in January but did not confirm if Musk was the father until March.
