The Fourth of July was a big holiday for Blake Shelton, who helped raise money for the USO this year.

Partnering with J.C. Penny, the country star and mentor on The Voice recorded a PSA encouraging fans to tweet, Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #JCPandBlake4USO and the tag @JCPENNEY over the holiday weekend. For every social media post, JCPenney will donate $1 to the USO, up to $200,000.

Even though the Fourth of July is over, it’s not too late to get involved with the  campaign. Blake’s “Ten Times Crazier” tour goes on until October 5, so you can continue to use the social media hashtags and donate until then.

“Our troops are out there every single day protecting our country and I’m proud to do my part with JCPenney to support and salute them for everything they do,”  Blake said. “I’m just blown away by their spirit, determination and loyalty to our country and this is just one way to say thank you to them.”

Oklahoma native Shelton also shared how he spent Independence Day with his wife, fellow country star Miranda Lambert — and it’s sweet and simple. “We got a couple of lawn chairs and went at sat at a creek in Oklahoma, on our land, with the dogs,” he explained.

For them, it’s all about relaxing and soaking in the sun — but when he was a kid, Blake celebrated with something a bit more unique. Check out the video to find out what it was!
