Blake Shelton has no problem being a straight shooter when it comes to discussing many things, including what it will be like attending the same event as his ex-wife Miranda Lambert since their divorce this past summer.

The two will be walking the red carpet of the CMAs separately for the first time in a long time and both are scheduled to perform. Although the two have been amicable on social media, Shelton admitted on the Late Night with Seth Meyers that it is going to be “awkward.”

“This year’s gonna be awkward at the CMAs, speaking of jokes,” Shelton told Meyers. “Because we are, it’s such a family. Everybody there is friends. There’s gotta be one about me and Miranda. [Host] Brad Paisley is not doing his job if he doesn’t look down there and go ‘Ha ha!’ You have to address the elephant in the room. We’ve had conversations like, ‘Okay, dude. I’ll sit there and let you kick me in the face a few times.’ I know it’s coming.”

Lambert and Shelton have been attending the CMAs together since 2007 and have even accepted awards together, meaning this year will be the first time in eight years they have attended separately.

Meanwhile Shelton also went on to admit he tried flirting with Rihanna, who worked as a celebrity mentor on The Voice this season. “She’s such a smart-ass. I never could get the upper hand with her. I was trying to get her to be a bit flirty. I mean, why not? I’m a perfect match for Rihanna. And so I was coming up with our couple name ‘Blihanna’ was one of them and ‘Rake.'”
